What is Vespers?
Vespers, or evening prayer, is a liturgy in which the people of God give thanks for the day that is ending and pray for peace during the night to come. The choir leads those present in the singing of psalms, canticles, and hymns by candlelight.

How we are celebrating at St. Wenceslaus:
Musically- with Gregorian Chant and Polyphony from the Surrounding area Scholae. 

Prayerfully—with Vespers from the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church's official prayer to sanctify the hours of the day.

With Sweets- following the liturgy, we will celebrate together with a special cookie reception (featuring the Bishop's favorite cookie) hosted by the American Heritage Girls.

What is "solemn" vespers?
Sometimes vespers become “Solemn Vespers,” usually to indicate either a celebration of a particular feast or season; in our case, the Patronal Solemnity of St. Wenceslaus. Elements used to add more solemnity might include changes to the church environment, special vesture for the ministers or community, incense, greater silence, and the inclusion of any “Propers.”
 
Who should attend?
Everyone! Since it is not a Eucharistic liturgy, it is a perfect opportunity to invite a non-Catholic friend to experience music, prayer, and fellowship.

This Sunday is also Priesthood Sunday. Neighboring priests will be in attendance, and it is a perfect time to show your appreciation.
