St. Wenceslaus is blessed to continue to offer the opportunity for our youngest church members to grow in their faith by participating in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Children are invited to join in this unique opportunity to grow in relationship with Christ. This year, we have expanded to three separate Atria for children ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. The Atria are located in the attic and lower level of the Youth Ministry house on the north side of the church.

The purpose of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is to assist the involvement of children and adults in a common religious experience based on the Montessori Method in which the religious values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation and enjoyment in God, are predominant. Children will join the catechist in a prepared environment called the Atrium full of beautiful items for the children to learn with by using them. After a presentation from the catechist, the child is allowed to choose their work. The Atrium is a place of prayer and work, imitating our life in the Church.

The Three Different Levels:

  • Level 1: One's relationship to the Good Shepherd
  • Level 2: One's role as a part of Jesus's flock and place on the True Vine
  • Level 3: The plan of God for His people and the Sacraments

Our parish will be offering children three separate times to come to the Atrium:

  1. Wednesday evenings from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  2. Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  3. Thursday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Each session will be capped at 8 children per Level. During these times, they will be encountering Christ by praying, participating in practical life work, and learning about life in the Church. The program is rooted in the Liturgy and the Bible.
